A poem a day – Nelson Mandela

nelson mandela

It was one of the those days when we all felt part of history  I remember watching Nelson Mandela’s release and it was similar to when the Berlin wall came down. We were witnessing the power that people can have when unified in a common goal. Nelson Mandela was the kind of man to make such changes and while South Africa’s problems are far from solved things will improve thanks, in part, to his legacy.  I wrote this poem in 2004 and it seems to sum up the man.

To feel

I know

Takes strength

To love

I know

Takes courage

To desire

I know

Takes lust

To hope

I know

Takes belief

To hurt

I know

Takes knowledge

To repair

I know

….and love.
